The pristine waters of freshwater Lake Clifton are the location of the largest collection of thrombolites in the Southern Hemisphere. Invisible to the human eye, over the millennia these amazing, living organisms have created a reef of stepping – stone formations which extends for six kilometres along the eastern fringe of the lake.
